The University of Illinois is being represented by Kevin Orr as coach for the Team Canada Wheelchair Rugby Team. The game was first developed in Canada as a team sport for quadriplegic athletes, and was originally known as "murderball" because of its intense physical nature. After being introduced in the United States, the name was changed to "quad rugby," but it is also commonly known as wheelchair rugby.

After learning about the potential for wheelchair sports, Kevin was pursuing a college education somewhere that he could participate in them. The University of Illinois had a program for disabled athletes that showed promise. Dr. Brad Hedrick introduced Orr to a plethora of sports during a visit there, and represented them with the integrity of a collegiate athletic program. Two years later this is where Kevin chose to go to school and major in Therapeutic Recreation. Kevin discovered a wide variety of competitive sports while attending college and actively participated in many of them.
Kevin was a member of four consecutive National Championship Wheelchair Basketball teams at the University of Illinois. He was the MVP is his senior year. Among his other personal achievements, Kevin was a Paralympic Track star winning the Bronze medal in the 800 Meter and 5,000 Meter races at the 1988 Paralympics in Seoul. Kevin has also held numerous National records in track.
After competing in wheelchair sports for many years, Kevin decided that it was time to give back to the sports that had given him so much in such a short time. He started volunteering for a new Quad Rugby team at the University of Illinois in 1989. During his internship at Lakeshore in 1990, Kevin decided to start developing a Quad Rugby team in Alabama. Two years later, the Lakeshore Demolition became a reality as the team traveled to several competitions. Currently the Lakeshore Demolition is the United States four-time defending National Champions and Kevin is the Head Coach.
