Ryan Chalmers went from a hospital bed to a racing wheelchair. While recovering from surgery, a local wheelchair track coach approached him about trying out the sport. Once healed, he gave it a spin and he’s now working his way to the top levels of wheelchair racing.
Chalmers’ Team USA debut comes at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand. He will compete in the marathon, after qualifying with a time of 1:36 at the 2010 Chicago Marathon.
Chalmers is currently a senior at the University of Illinois ad in his spare time he enjoys spending time with friends, reading, scuba diving and watching TV.
