Making her first appearance at the Paralympic Games in 2008, Amanda McGrory made every moment count by medaling in four out of her five races. In the grueling 5,000m (T54), McGrory won her first-ever gold medal in a thrilling fashion, edging out Canada's Diane Roy by one hundredth of a second.
She started out playing basketball, and then moved on to track and field. While she competed in both sports at the University of Illinois, she says track and field is definitely her favorite.
McGrory graduated from the University of Illinois in May of 2010 with a Bachelor's In psychology. She currently still lives in Champaign, Illi., where she continues to train and work part time.
